SASSA Old-Age Grants January 2026: Latest Payment Schedule And Eligibility Details

SASSA (South African Social Security Agency) has made it clear that the Old-Age Grant payments for the year 2026 January will be paid out in the week to come after the New Year. The reason for this is the festive season along with public holidays that increased the waiting period between the December and January payments for many pensioners. The January payout will provide the elderly South Africans, who solely rely on the grant, with much-needed financial support for their primary living costs.

Pensioners’ Official Payment Date

SASSA has set the date for the Old-Age Grant payment on Tuesday, 6 January 2026. On the same day, the funds will be transferred into the bank accounts of beneficiaries and will also be accessible through ATMs, retail outlets, and authorized SASSA payment points. The elderly people will be told not to be in a hurry to get their money as it will be there waiting for them once it has been deposited.

Incremented Old-Age Grant Grants

The beneficiary receiving grants during the payment cycle of January 2026 will be getting the same amount that is granted for the financial year 2025/26. Old people aged between 60 and 74 will get R2,320 monthly and those aged 75 and more will get R2,340 monthly. The amounts have not changed from those of the last months and a review might be done during the national budget process at the end of the year.

Grant’s Necessity For The Elderly Citizens Of South Africa

SASSA’s Old-Age Grant is a principal source of income for a good number of elderly people and it provides a very important financial support. The main source of support that the grant provides is the above-mentioned basic needs. The elderly are still much affected by the growing living cost and this situation has worsened to such an extent that advocacy groups are calling for a much larger increase than what was previously decided for the future grant adjustments.

SASSA System Reviews And Compliance Checks

SASSA is carrying out the nationwide grant review program, which has been conducted since the beginning of the year, to ensure that only the right people get paid. This process entails doing biometric verification and income checks, which might help to uncover cases where the beneficiaries do not meet the criteria anymore. Since the review process can lead to payment delays, SASSA urges the seniors to help with the review process.
